Lonerider Brewing Company
A Note on This Beer
It takes a special kind of audacity for a brewery known for rebellious Imperial flavors to claim a light style as their flagship brew. But Lonerider Brewing Company proves they live up to their reputation by putting a radical spin on light drinking.
It’s time to meet Shotgun Betty – an award-winning, bestselling Hefeweizen that took us by surprise.
With edgy pepper citrus aromas reminiscent of a Saison, a hoppy bitter edge and a 5.8% ABV, Shotgun Betty is not the average, light bodied, subdued-flavored Wheat the style is known for. Just one tall boy later and we were revaluating our previously tumultuous relationship with the Hefe.
This lady announces herself with a vigilante spirit: Spicy lemon and pear merge with iconic ripe banana and clove in a medium body. Cereal grains and honeyed bread riff off a surprising hop spark of bitter orange and tangerine notes. The finish is snappy and dry.
If you’re thinking it takes chutzpah to make a Hefeweizen your flagship, you’d be right. Breweries typically reserve this moniker for standard, if not-quite-genre pushing IPAs. But making a bitter, bold Hefe showcases Lonerider’s trademark of pushing style guidelines. And Shotgun Betty’s certainly has an attitude all her own.
