A Note on This Beer
It only takes 9 months to create a human, but it takes 52 to brew a Shinto Sour Stout.
Washington Nano-brewers Harmon Brewing Company took 25 lbs of sour cherries and added them with lactobacillus to their molasses coffee loaded Stryker Stout. Then they aged it for a combined total of 52 months in three different bourbon barrels and a wine barrel before blending it to all together, creating Shinto Sour Stout.
Nosedive into a bourbony spray of boozy citrus. Take a moment to allow your tongue to unravel the contrasting but seamless flavors of sour cherries, roasted caramel malts, oaky vanilla, and sweet whiskey as they reveal themselves individually up front and then combine for a beautifully dark complex finish.
This super small batch is a rare find almost exclusive to Harmon’s tap room; with just a few kegs making their way to local Washington festivals. Shinto Sour Stout beckons to be tasted, shared with friends, and reminisced over long after.
