Saison Meer: Chardonnay Barrel & Buckwheat
Afterthought Brewing Company
A Note on This Beer
If you haven’t already upped the security on your beer fridge, do so now. Add a few extra locks, maybe even consider installing a hidden camera.
Because with only 368 bottles in existence of today’s 4.53 UT rated Saison Meer Oak-Aged Ale from Afterthought Brewing, I expect Tavour’s Farmhouse fiends to hunt you down and sneak away with every last bottle they can snatch up.
If this is your first time hearing about this Saison specialists, it’s only because their beers are pretty much impossible to find outside of Illinois.
But even still, these guys are winning Farmhouse fans all over Chicago-land and earning a massive 4.31 brewery rating on Untappd — that’s higher than masters like Jester King, de Garde, and 3 Fonteinen!
So of course I’m stoked to introduce the Tavour community to their jaw-dropping, world-class Saison.
Brewed with locally-sourced Illinois buckwheat and aged in French Chardonnay barrels, this Saison brims with aromas of ripe stonefruit and a hint of vanilla nuttiness. Layers of white grape juice, crushed Granny Smiths, and woody complexity swirl around an easy-going 5% ABV. A touch of oaky vanilla appears on the finish, bringing a masterful balance the brew’s rich fruit flavors.
Now that you’ve grabbed yourself a bottle of Saison Meer, keep an extra close eye on your collection.
Because Tavour’s got the only stash leaving Illinois and once those are gone, there’s no telling what Afterthought’s fans will do to get their hands on more of this funky, oak-aged brew.
