Not a lot of people know this but rye is an IPA’s best friend – using its rustic, crackling dry attitude to fuel hop potency into maximum overdrive. It’s a secret ingredient craft brewers love to use and craft beer drinkers are finally starting to notice.
In their massively resinous Rye IPA, Nebraska’s Zipline Brewing Co. taps directly into fresh, locally grown rye to serve up bold, bitter flavor in an 8.5% ABV hop bomb.
Intertwined with the pine-soaked grapefruit cocktail of Columbus, Chinook, and Cascade Hops, rye doubles down on intensity with flavors of evergreen needles twisted with peppery spice and accents of clove-spiked orange peels. Clocking in at 66 IBUs, rye drives the bitter with a kick that feels closer to 100.
Winning Gold at last year’s GABF, Zipline’s impactful brews are quickly earning praise that reaches past Nebraska’s borders. And in this exclusive hopbomb, they show us that rye and hops are a match made in heaven.
