A Note on This Beer
Brewmaster Phil Leinhart had a clear goal in mind when he set out to create Ommegang’s newest release, “I wanted a sour fruit beer that invites you to have another.” Leinhart partnered with Ommegang’s Belgian sister brewery Liefman--renowned for Sour Fruit Ales--to begin crafting a more perfect Kriek.
Over three years later, the result was Rosetta: a Fruit Ale aged on cherries
Spontaneously fermented by wild yeast from the air and cherry skins, Rosetta adds generous dimensions to its Flemish Brown Ale base. Then a careful balancing act takes place as the brewers blend this aged ale with young Flemish Brown Ale and tart Kriek.
“Balance and the right blend was key for me, and I really believe we hit the sweet spot, so to speak,” says Leinhart.
Rosetta pours a garnet red into a tulip glass. An aroma of sugar-spiced cherries accompanies a billowing tan head. A sparkle of sour dances on the palate, mingling with the sweetness pure fruit juice. The natural earthy taste of the stone fruit fills the mouth with a zesty finish.
In the same tradition as their highly regarded Three Philosophers, Ommegang has crafted Rosetta to showcase the cherry’s tart and sweet sides. An elegantly executed Sour, Rosetta’s invitation will have you coming back for seconds.
