Roll In Ze' Watermelons
Verboten Brewing & Barrel Project
A Note on This Beer
Adventures Of Salted Watermelon
Jason Bowser and Josh n’ Angie Grenz love German beer. But you can tell from their defiant brewery name, Verboten aka forbidden, that they’re serious rule breakers. And that’s why they chose to make a Gose — and way back in 2013, before hardly anyone in America was brewing them. Jason, Josh and Angie broke the rules of traditional 3-ingredient German brewing twice-over by adding sour cultures and salt to craft their American take on the style.
Verboten’s Gose won the first contest they entered it in. And then it won again, and again, and kept winning over a dozen awards, attracting a cult following. But it was time to go bigger, time to break the rules once again, this time with fruit!
They picked watermelon to break out of the mold of typical fruits found in Sour Ales, it was perfect for this deviant trio. And salted watermelon slices are a Verboten crew favorite at potlucks, the flavor combo making for a real party on the palate.
All the rule breaking paid off. Coloradans can’t get enough of Verboten’s Roll In Ze Watermelons Gose. Once a year, when they release it, fans pillage every bottleshop and liquor store in the area — buying up every bomber in stock. Sour fans can thank the crew at Verboten for helping kick-off the fruit Gose movement. Grab a tart, watermelon Jolly Rancher-like sip of today’s beer and taste the Gose revolution.
