A Note on This Beer
Mention the Two Beers Alta Series to any Seattle beer nerd and you’ll get one reaction - child-like exhilaration. Brewed once each season, these highly limited, small-batch beers mash lofty flavors with unprecedented boozy intensity and locals just can’t get enough.
But for the last two years, the brewery saves their best Alta for the end of the year.
Their Overhang Imperial Porter is a 12% ABV giant of whiskey flavor, aged six months in Bourbon barrels.
By barrel-aging a Porter, one of craft beers’ smoothest styles is united with unbridled complexity. Built upon a hefty bill of seven different malts varieties, Overhang flourishes with all the treasured flavors under the Porter spectrum - roast, cocoa, and molasses. But after taking its six-month rest in real Bourbon barrels, the beer releases the very essence of whiskey. Prolonged aging infuses spicy barrel wood, smooth vanilla, dark fruit, and a wealth of blushing booziness.
Only 3000 hand-labeled bottles were brewed, but we were lucky to get a ransom of this exclusive beer. Make sure to grab enough to cellar for next year, or to stave off the inevitable dark beer draught of summer.
