A Note on This Beer
Tea may seem like a toned-down, quiet beverage. But when Milwaukee Brewing Co. infuses an Imperial Wit with a blend of green tea and spices, the outcome is more “Godzilla-smashes-Tokyo” than “dainty-cucumber-sandwich.”
Milwaukee Brewing’s O-Gii Imperial Wit has such a high-impact arsenal of distinctive notes, your palate will be caught by surprise. The brewery built O-Gii to be a flavor-monster, starting with a 9.2% ABV wheat beer brewed with coriander, orange peel, chamomile and fresh cut ginger.
Doubling down on the invigorating flavors of ginger and citrus in the base, the brewery cold-steeps in locally-based Rishi Tea’s green Sencha blend, known for its light pine and deep umami taste. Unleashed in a boozy Wit, it’s like nothing you’ve tried before.
Some reviewers tossed out phrases like, “a revelation” and “absolutely amazing” when describing O-Gii’s taste. Herbal hints of loose leaf green tea swirl with tropical tones of melon and pear in the aroma. This Imperial Wit is complex with robust flavor, but feels much lighter than its boozy heights. The green tea notes are grassy-fresh, with chamomile and ginger adding in Asian-inspired spice. Like a dry mead, there’s a bit of honey-sweetness, hiding its boozy levels.
Think you’re a craft beer drinker who has tasted it all? So did we until we tried O-Gii. Even with their non-conformist attitude to brewing, there’s no way Milwaukee Brewing could have predicted this Wit’s runaway success. But fans of the beer agree: this surprising combination is just awesome.
