A Note on This Beer
BlackStack needs no introduction. Their beers are like a hit TV show — no matter what hops are guest starring or what flavors are featured, the studio audience is bound to erupt in applause!
Today’s two-fer from BlackStack is a new sitcom of unlikely hoppy pairings. One’s a good ol’, down home favorite, while the other is a crazy fun experiment with a hop that’s yet to be named! And, now they live in the same apartment?! What kind of dry-hopped hijinks are afoot?
Let’s take a roll call for today’s cast:
DDH 755: USDA 074 (7% ABV)
Rolling into town with the brand new USDA 074 Hop from Oregon State’s Hop breeding program and the folks at BSG, this cowboy with a cause is hoppy, hazy, and delicious. Brewed with a brand new hop with no (official) name, it lives on the edge. Add in a dry-hop of Azacca, Amarillo and Citra Hops, and you get this sensational rebel of an IPA.
Swaths of deep citrus and pithy orange notes come at you right up front to combat the fresh-from-the-forest pine aroma; the unique finish even gives off notes of apple, caramel, and just a touch of peach.
MOMMY DEAREST (8.2% ABV)
She’s been livin’ in the city for years, and now Mommy Dearest is here to excite your palate. Citra, Triumph, Azacca, Sabro, and Sabro Cryo Hops: this DIPA is double dry hopped, full of charm, and ready to whip any trouble makers into shape.
A berry-forward nose makes way to fresh pressed juices on the front, with splashes of pineapple and melon notes. Its classically tasty flavors have longtime fans like @Bitter J. cheering “Lively, spunky, memorable, part of the family — just like Mom!”
BlackStack’s long produced some of the best beers around — will you tune in for this brand new duo, all bundled and brought right to your door?

Solid 4.5 to a 4.65 super flavorful smooth and a great juicy bomb 💣 one of my favorite BlackStack brews I have had
smooth, floral, just a hint of grapefruit, easy drinking,
Nice hazy that still has a decent hop bite
IDK why but I can’t place the aftertaste. Lots of melon rind that’s not hip bitter just… Something else. Don’t get me wrong, I like it but the aftertaste pulled my score down a tad.
Light golden hazy, white bubbly head, medium low retention, super juicy, not overly citrusy with some mango, a little pineapple, hints of pear and guava, a little alcohol on the nose but very fruit juicy aroma detectable from 3 ft away
Not my favorite BlackStack but still solid. I’m getting lots of citrus/pineapple in front. The bitter bite in this one is pronounced and comes across strong and fast
St Paul’s Phinest, with a heavily hopped Mother’s Day delight!
Bright citrus aroma as soon as the can opened. Tangerine and melon, with some pineapple in the middle. Bitterness kicks in toward the end.
Pineapple flavor dominates and a little boozy. Tastes more like a sour.
Pineapple flavor and delicious
if you love Sabro then this beer is for you
solid, but not exciting
Party in my mouth
delicious, would def order again
Solid IPA. Good flavs.
