Almanac Beer Company
A Note on This Beer
“That’s plum tasty!” “Plum good!” “I’ve got a real plum of a job.” There’s a reason this fruit inspires expressions of desire - it’s a juicy, tart little ball of nectar. Often just used as an accent in beer, Almanac Beer Co.’s Sour Barrel prowess makes plum the desirable focus of their Mariposa Sour Ale.
Aged in Red Wine Barrels, Mariposa further indulges Sour and Fruit fans with the full power of their Farm to Barrel mantra -- using locally harvested Mariposa plums plucked fresh from Central California.
Beloved for their juicy sweetness, these plums also lend the beer a pleasant, light purple hue reminiscent of guava juice. Aging in wine barrels adds wild sour cultures and oaky depth, while inclusions of Brettanomyces rounds out tartness with spice and overripe peaches. Dry-hopping with El Dorado and Citra Hops announce aromas of candied pineapple, honey, and a sprig of mint.
With their barrel-aged talents and absolute obsession with fresh fruit, it’s no surprise that Almanac is one of the Tavour community’s most loved Sour makers, routinely getting 4+ scores. Reach into the fridge, pull out these sour-doused plums, and say, “What a good boy am I.”
