A Note on This Beer
Bierbrouwerij De Koningshoeven’s La Trappe Quad presents us with a rare opportunity. You would need a time machine to taste the inaugural beer of most other styles -- but with La Trappe you can drink the first Quad ever made, giving you a taste of what kickstarted an international style sensation
La Trappe released the world’s first Quad back in 1991, which inspired thousands of copies around the world thanks to its sophisticated combination of dark fruit flavors and boozy undertones. Ranked the #10 Best Quad in the World on BeerAdvocate for its rich notes of banana, clove, honey, raisin and dates and a boozy finish that warms you as you drink, this OG is sure to please any fan of Belgian Ales.
Today’s version of La Trappe’s classic Quad has been aged on Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Islay Scotch barrels, enhancing the original Quad’s dark fruit flavors with a burst of peaty Scotch smoke. It’s like a Belgian monk moved to Scotland and gave us a beer with all of that charred Islay flavor without the normal Whiskey burn.
*Pair this boozy beast with Limburger cheese to blow away your dinner guests.
