A Note on This Beer
Counterbalance is one of the newest beer makers in Seattle, boasting founders who first mastered artisan coffee at the beloved Caffee Ladro coffeehouse. This background enables them to lay out an intense sensory feast of roasts in Imperial Stout form.
Counterbalance Brewing’s first bottled release of their Kushetka Russian Imperial Stout immediately reveals their talent for maximally extracting the flavors of charred dark malts. While this brew contains no actual coffee, its deep roasts are so fulfilling, it may make you skip your afternoon mocha.
From its dark caramel foam, it’s clear Kushetka is loaded with a divine blend of dark malts. Roasted Barley makes up the main body of flavor and aroma of freshly toasted espresso grounds. Chocolate Malt adds quintessential bittersweet stone-ground cocoa notes. The x-factor comes in the dangerously powerful Black Malt that brings us right to the edge of a roasty abyss, giving us just enough char to awaken the senses with every sip.
Years of careful development of recipes and facilities have gone into the creation of Counterbalance Brewing and this bottle release follows in line with their plan for explosive growth. Their pent up anticipatory energy is palpable in the waves of flame seared malts that spring from each glass of Kushetka.
