A Note on This Beer
It’s not easy to identify a great brewery early on, but Nebraska Brewing Company fits the bill. In its first seven years, Nebraska Brewing has won a lion’s share of prestigious honors, including Gold medals at GABF and the World Beer Cup.
Nebraska Brewing’s sharply bitter, uniquely balanced and refreshingly drinkable IPA is a testament to their excellence and innovation. It’s West Coast-inspired and distinctly Midwestern, featuring four varieties of aromatic Northwest hops and pronounced spiciness from local-grown wheat.
Nebraska IPA pours a darker, deeper orange than most West Coast IPAs. The hue suggests maltiness the nose is largely dominated by scintillating tropical, grassy and resinous hop aromas. Robust Munich Malt and zesty Midnight Wheat arrive first on the palate, just barely beating the hops to the punch.
72 IBUs of Warrior, Chinook, Centennial and Citra hops contribute to Nebraska IPA’s refreshing bitterness. Throughout the tasting experience, complex hop notes of sage, pine resin, dank, mango, papaya, grapefruit and lemon weave in and out of the malt backbone. This superb balance and a dry finish make for an IPA that can be knocked back at will.
It’s a stretch to say that Nebraska has a reputation as a beer-crazed state. The state beverage is milk, after all. But Nebraska IPA is a palate-expanding experience that stands up to so many West Coast IPAs we’ve come to love.
