A Note on This Beer
In Sound Brewing’s Humulo Nimbus a strong front of hops meets the right malts and the right yeast, accelerating and growing into a towering beer unlike any DIPA you’ve seen before.
Sound Brewing’s beer line up is full of German and Belgian styles made anew with American elements. Their motto expresses it succinctly: “Tradition Liberated”. With Humulo Nimbus they invert their method, taking an American classic, the DIPA, and turn it into a hybrid flavor deluge by adding European influences. Big IPA-style tropical and piney hops pour, but so do the big caramelly malts of a German Bock, and the fruity, yeasty esters of a Belgian Ale.
From the first pour, it’s apparent this isn’t your average storm-in-a-glass. Humulo Nimbus shines with a cloudy amber body and unusual matching amber head. You can smell a change in the air around you as hints of papaya and taffy come floating in on the wind. A sip unleashes a high density of flavors across your tongue, flattening everything you’ve tasted previously. Peaches and pine hop flavors crash into silos of dry grain before sliding into refreshing slight brininess.
All these massive waves of flavors led Humulo Nimbus to Gold at the 2012 US Beer Open. With an outstanding rating on Beer Advocate, it’s clear that the experts agree: Humulo Nimbus is a unique perfect storm of flavor that redefines what is possible in a pint glass.
