A Note on This Beer
There’s a gathering storm of IPA enthusiasts who feel big malt bills and high ABVs are overwhelming hops with too much sugar. If you’re nodding as you read this, Schooner Exact’s Hopvine IPA is really going to make you smile. When you see the price, that smile will get even bigger.
This IPA is bone dry and bitter with little sweetness to be found. Using aggressive amounts of pale-focused hops, the brewery cuts back on the malts and pushes forward on Chinnook and Columbus Hops – thus capitalizing on fresh grassy, herbal flavors and leaving the sugar behind.
Hopvine is alive with bright notes of leafy greens, pine and mint. Black pepper is sprinkled throughout amongst austere hits of grapefruit and orange rind. But all the juiciness of this fruit is reserved for the ripe aroma – a veritable orchard jumps out of the glass thanks to late additions of Citra Hops. The finish is so dry you can practically hear it snap, crackle and pop.
In the hub of the infinitely diverse Seattle beer scene, Schooner Exact continues to stand out with thoughtful brews that put flavor first. In Hopvine, they let the hops tell the story of a refreshing, bitter summer beer. So if the sweetness in IPAs has been letting you down, Hopvine is the beer to bring you up!
