A Note on This Beer
Arcadia Ales’ 9% ABV Hop Rocket Double India Pale Ale is one of the only IPAs we’ve found that spotlights resinous, mega-alpha Summit Hops. And it proves hoppy brews aren’t just about the hops you choose, but how you use them.
Given its impressive 16 - 19.5% alpha acid content, Summit is almost exclusively used as a bittering hop. But extreme bitterness converts into extreme flavor when half of Hop Rocket’s Summit Hops are channeled into dry hopping. In this new role, the hop comes to life with hardcore citrus peel flavor, slices of onion and sprigs of spruce.
A strong whiff of Hop Rocket fuels the nose with big pineapple and grapefruit resin, preparing the mouth for a bucketful of bitter that never comes. Instead, the palate is met with a controlled dance of orange-lemon rind with brushes of fresh pine drizzled in honey. Spring green onion provides a subtle, surprising edge - you just want to close your eyes and relish in the clean, dry finish.
Award-winning Arcadia Ales pushes the palate into a dramatic double take. This popular release is anticipated throughout Michigan but it’s a delicious departure from any DIPA that’s come our way in some time.
