A Note on This Beer
One of these beer legends is alive and well and living in San Diego. Peter Zien, owner and head brewer of Alesmith, makes some of the finest ales in the the country. From his legendary Speedway Stout to his vaunted IPA, Peter’s beers have the power to immediately elevate palates upon tasting.
With the holidays rapidly approaching we focus on his seasonally appropriate masterwork- the Alesmith Grand Cru.
Grand Cru is synonymous with quality. It matches the elegance of premier Belgian Strong Dark Ales from a world away. Grand Cru has a caramel backbone ornately laden with matching nuance. It employs only Belgian yeast to create neverending dark fruits flavors and of intricate spice.
Poured, Grand Cru has gorgeous red chestnut lustre and bountiful creamy head. As you swirl and awaken the aromas, its foam makes intricate lacing around the sides of your glass. Aromas of plums, muscovado sugar and brandied grapes fill the air. Sipping releases raisins, lightly toasted grains, vanilla, and nutmeg. Bready malts taste fresh each time you reach for the glass. Grand Cru finishes with world class creaminess and effervescence as loads of flavor are buoyed by an enchantingly light body.
Beers with this high degree of complexity call for constant re-exploration. A bottle carefully cellared will gain further layers of rich, caramelly goodness.
If you try Grand Cru immediately - Beware! Once you crack open this gold foil wrapped champagne bottle, you will have very high standards for weeks to come.
