Flock Wave Wheat Pale Ale
Pelican Brewing Company
A Note on This Beer
Summer months see flocks of tourists descend upon the Oregon Coast, but the best time to visit is actually in the early fall. The ocean temps are warmest in September and October, and you can have the beach to yourself. Plus, the most awarded brewery in the area has a quenchable beer to accompany the sand and surf.
Literally a brewery on the beach, Pelican Brewing Company took inspiration from their Oregon Coast home when they created their newest seasonal release Flock Wave Wheat Pale Ale. Just like it teams up with spices in a Hefe, the addition of wheat in this Pale Ale enhances fruit-forward hop flavors.
Smooth and warm wheat tones shine through crisp citrus layers of Amaris, Cascade and Nugget hops. Unfiltered, Flock Wave pours the hazy gold of sunlight through a seaspray mist. Juicy grapefruit and pine ride in on a tide of bready-sweet wheat. Its medium-body is surprisingly dry in the finish, with a clean lingering hint of rind on the palate.
Flock Wave is a welcome departure for Wheat fans from the heavy Stouts and big beers of late. Bring a little piece of Pacific City sunshine to your door from a 2014 World Beer Cup Champion.
