Drayman's Porter (2017)
Berkshire Brewing Company
A Note on This Beer
Porters are one of the biggest reasons I’m proud to call myself a dark beer fan. Roasty, toasty, yet smooth, this style packs the best dark beer flavors into an elegant, even refreshing package. When I think of the ideal Porter, it’s tough to beat Berkshire Brewing Company’s Drayman’s Porter.
A favorite from my East Coast beer travels, Drayman’s meshes Berkshire’s community-raved dark beer mastery (their Imperial Stout is considered one of the best in the world!) with coffee-soaked chocolate notes into tightly carbonated smoothness. The BA Bros are in love with Drayman’s, calling this tasty treat “one of the better Porters brewed in New England.”
One sip reminds you of a snowy New England evening, warming the cockles with its roasty dropkick of stovetop espresso and milk chocolate notes. Hints of minty sweet birch beer and cola tantalize the tip of your tongue, followed by smooth cold brew, crushed coffee beans, and a bittersweet snap of cacao nibs. The finish brings the crispness of bubbles so effervescent, they make sipping this darkness easy like French Silk chocolate.
As the weather cools and the leaves begin to fall from trees, Drayman’s is my go-to transitional dark brew with a roasty yet easy drinking manner that fits any season. It’s a good thing Berkshire gives us a taste of their stash or else I’d have to pack up and move to Massachusetts whenever I need my Drayman’s fix.
