Contrition Keller Pils
Burial Beer Company
A Note on This Beer
“Asheville is the city with the most breweries per capita in America… One such brewery that clearly stands out — Burial Beer Co.”
Well put, Colin Hubbel of Southern Kitchen! North Carolina’s craft scene has exploded over the past several years, but Burial is one name I keep reaching for in the sea of suds. And, after trying today’s beers, I’m glad I do!
That’s right – I said “beers.” Today, you get TWO Burial creations to taste their range!
First up is Contrition. Don’t be fooled by the bright, sunny appearance or easygoing 4.8% ABV – this beauty is a Kellerbier. The rarely-seen style is anything but easy to craft, let alone master!
Contrition boasts soft, rounded flavors of fresh-made biscuits thanks to a decoction of 100% German Pilsner malts. Kellerbiers call for more aggressive hopping than other Euro styles, which the Burial team achieved in the whirlpool with Grungeist, Saaz, and Hallertau Blanc, adding nuances of lemongrass, citrus peel, and elderflower.
True to style, the brewers cold lagered the brew, left it unfiltered, and canned it relatively early in its maturity. Any miscalculation during the entire process would come right to the crisp, drinkable surface at the end, but the Burial folks nailed it!
To really understand how well Burial stands out, you’ll want to taste one of their hopbombs, too. Today, that’s one of their latest releases — Gang of Blades Double IPA.
In addition to their house yeast blend, these brewers used a collage of Citra, El Dorado, Idaho 7, and Centennial Hops, plus extra-potent Incognito and Cryo versions to really take the bold pine and drippy tropical fruit flavors to eleven.
Gang of Blades is 8.3% ABV. It’s quenching, resinous, and delectably hop-forward. And, just like Contrition Kellerbier, it’s from Burial Beer Co. ‘Nuff said.

Probably one of the best Pilsners I’ve had. Nice malt on the nose and up front. Crisp hop finish comes in perfectly at the end. I wish this was a local beer I could keep stocked.
Very clean, tasty - citrusy/herbal plus the Keller flavor. Definitely worth ordering again
Best pils I've ever had. Most taste pissy to me, this one doesn't. It would be a great, light, summertime beer.
would love to try more Burial lagers
Very tasty pils. Hoppy, grassy and citrusy. 🍻
I wish I could have gotten more than 1. Very smooth slight hint of citrus, all around great beer and would be a great day drinking beer.
Crisp and refreshing a solid pilsner
Good german pilsner
As advertised and very well executed; super crisp, malty ... and yes, biscuity.
Smooth and delicious.
Very refreshing, easy to drink, almost zero bitterness
Pretty mellow. Easy drinker with undertone flavors
Fantastic crisp Pilsner
Solid 4 clean crisp
Very average Pilsner.
Solid pilsner. Easy drinking
Dank, earthy nose. Pours golden w/decent head. Mouthfeel is clean. Flavor profile is subtle, but enough bready-earthy-hoppy, yet still easy going & crisp.
One of the best pilsners I’ve had
I could drink this all day. Perfect Pilsner
Pretty solid Pilsner
Thrills for pils!
What you would want with a Pils. Great name also. Crisp and clean.
Awesome smooth pils
Clean bright and citrusy
So refreshing to drink a pilsner. Can’t wait for my lagers to come next crate!
Great Pilsner! Light and crisp.
Really good Pils.... Delicious.
This might be the best Pilsner I’ve ever tasted, smoother than a baby’s bottom.
Daily corona battle. NFL draft? edition. See Burial, buy Burial. Perfect example. Don’t love many pils, love this. Lemony, buscuity, crushable and oh so clean. Just pure throughout. Terrific.
Crisp, clean and tasty pils.
Simple but delicious Pilsner. Very refreshing
Nice clean pils
Burial consistently turns out great beer. This one doesn’t disappoint
Light and crisp, but full flavor. Perfect bitter finish. I could easily crush a bunch of these
Outstanding pils, smooth biscuit malt. Nice crisp finish. Gimme another.
This Pils is cloudy, as stated, and full of body. Does not have the crispness I’m used to in a Pils but the citrusy flavors are evident and hoppy flavor stands out.
Lite and springy
Notes of bread up front with light hints of citrus and grass on the back end of the aroma. Flavor follows taste along with a touch of honey sweetness.
Good enough to drink another
Malty and crisp with some bite on the end. Decent.
Solid Pilsner, German Pilsner malt, Grungeist, Saaz, and Hallertau Blanc hops, very drinkable.
Lovely Pils! A clean, crisp, bright brew with malty bread and lemon flavors. A definite keeper. Me want more…
You can taste the bready, malty, flavors definitive of a German Pilsner. I’m so glad I bought this but wish I had more. A fine kellerbier! Reviewed live at twitch.tv/brewedforgaming.
1/28/21 decent Pils, but it smells like cat pee 🤷🏻♂️ It’s kind of hard to get past.
엄청 맘에드는 필스너였음
Lemon Zest Pilsner, easy drinking.
Lemon zest and herbal spice up front, slightly green. Fades into a sweet honey and cracker to finish. Pretty good.
This is an amazing pilsner.
perfect crisp summer pils!
