A Note on This Beer
Today’s beer comes recommended by Neal, one of Tavour’s Wild Ale and Saison aficionados!
Whenever a bottleshop clerk recommends a beer to me, I try it and nearly every time I’m blown away by its quality. In this spirit, I strongly encourage you to try Libertine Brewing’s Wild Oak-Aged Central Coast Saison.
Central Coast Saison is a delicately balanced masterwork that features a little bit of everything -- a hit of tartness, a hit of wild funky apricots, and a hit of grassy floral hops. Drink it quickly and you’ll miss all the complexity -- slow down to enjoy every nuance.
Nectarous apricot aromas of well-developed Brettanomyces wild yeast invite the nose in, deceiving it into thinking this might be made of juice. Peppery Saison yeast and the sunflower seed-like grain notes of the base beer show off their depth as soon as it hits the tongue. A splash of tartness from coolship processing intermingles with a zesty hint of orange from Cascade Hops and the softness of French oak, leaving you entranced.
Central Coast Saison checks all the delicious boxes for me, but it isn’t easy to put into one stylistic box. Rather than try to represent one simple style or flavor, the brewers at Libertine instead focus on layering it with many perfectly balanced facets.
I’m not the only one who loves this beer -- over 1,000 people on Untappd give it a 4.02 rating.
