Bourbon Barrel Aged Invisible Art Black IPA (2017)
Adroit Theory Brewing Company
A Note on This Beer
When we featured Adroit Theory’s 10.1% ABV, 98 IBU Invisible Art, we said no Black IPA could match its intensity, insanity, and all enveloping darkness.
Then we met the barrel aged version.
Barrel Aged Invisible Art is a fluid palate vortex of bourbon chocolate coffee, complex woody roasts AND pine zest hops. With only 2,000 bottles ever made, we feel super privileged to get a taste of this dark hoppy juggernaut.
A staggering range of flavors will keep the tongue occupied as whiskey citrus bitters flows into lemon fudge infused espresso. Adroit carefully weaves a thread of intriguing herbal-spiked Sorachi Ace, Mosaic, and Simcoe Hops. Sesame seeds give a unique umami twist to this behemoth of liquored charred malt. Sprinkles of red peppercorn spice and rosemary tops off the bourbon ganache of chocolate rye malt and barrel character.
The original Invisible Art earned a spot on Tavour’s Top 10 dark beer list of 2016 but this is the first barrel aged Black IPA we’ve ever tasted and it owns the senses with endless entertainment. Drink among friends and compare flavor insights – you’ll be at it for awhile.
