Black Me Stout
Champion Brewing Company
A Note on This Beer
Our quest to find the next innovative Stout took us to Charlottesville, Virginia after insiders shared word of Champion Brewery’s Black Me Stout – a sessionable dark beer that uses Wheat Malt and a big flavor profile to deliver all the robust horsepower of a Russian Imperial.
Patrons didn’t seem to raise an eyebrow when we told them we hailed all the way from Seattle just to try this beer – it turns out they’re used to craft beer fans making the pilgrimage to Champion.
With an exciting, multi-faceted blend of Wheat and Chocolate Malts, Champion is able to achieve a dry, rounded mouthfeel that, thanks to the wheat, is strikingly smooth. Rich charred grains are enveloped by coffee, a touch of dark fruit and a luscious bite of anise. The result is a boozy chocolate imprint that carries the burly flavor punch of a high ABV.
Thanks to Champion, you can savor the highly engineered, creamy roast flavors of Black Me Stout without the limitations imposed by an alchy-giant. It’s easy to put away and easy to go back for seconds – without stumbling to open the can.
Interest in Champion’s innovation grows as they continue to shake up classic styles with new ideas. But it’s impossible to find these inventive beers on the West Coast – that’s why we had to go straight to the source.
