A Note on This Beer
Today’s compulsively drinkable dark beer boldly explores where roasts and barrel flavors meet the creamy edge and fruity complexity of a Belgian Quadrupel.
If this sounds unlike anything you’ve ever tasted before, join the club. It is unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
Kerkom Brewing’s Bink Grand Cru is a Belgian Dark Ale that marries the darkness of a Stout with a woody depth from oak barrel aging and an enlivening sherry elements provided by Belgian yeast. With dark roasted malts rarely seen in a Grand Cru and a heady 13% ABV, Bink Grand Cru is immediately identifiable as brew in a class of its own.
The Bink Grand Cru pours three shades darker than most Grand Crus, the deep brown of black walnut wood. The aroma barely prepares you for the flavor rich bounty about to come with hints of toasted marshmallows, currants, oak, and leather. The flavor is a panoply of American Oak soaked fruits candied over a flame: cherries, grapes and oranges. Roasts range from blackstrap molasses to coffee to bittersweet chocolate. A warming hint of alcohol blends seamlessly into a creamy body and crisp dry finish.
Bink Grand Cru stands out from Barrel Aged Dark Beers with the fruity accompaniment of Belgian yeast. It stands out from other Grand Crus by embracing the cocoa-like side of roasted barley.
Beers with the decadent flavors and originality like Bink Grand Cru were made for special occasions. For connoisseurs on the search for next genre busting craft brew, opening one will be an special occasion all by itself.
