A Note on This Beer
People go crazy when we find highly rated, interesting beers for $5.00.
A quality, imperial-strength beer for $5.00 is almost unheard of.
With a unique history, great ratings and 9.4% ABV, Black Boss Baltic Porter is a rare combination of both.
Unlike most Porters, Baltic Porters are traditionally brewed with top-fermenting yeast, which technically makes them a lager. Lager yeast was originally used because it ferments at very low temperatures, which were typical of the Baltic region. Now, most breweries choose lager yeast because it has very little effect on the malt flavor or finish. Therefore, this distinctive Polish beer has all of the best qualities of a traditional porter and a clean, crisp, malty finish.
Brewed by Browar Witnica S.A. in Poland, Black Boss Baltic Porter pours a deep, almost black mahogany color, with a lightly bitter, molasses aroma. Expect big caramel, dark fruit, and roasted chocolate malt flavors though the middle, with a slightly boozy, grain-like sweetness on the tail end.
In the old days, the high alcohol content of the Baltic Porter helped prevent the beer from freezing during transport. Now, the extra bit of alcohol makes Black Boss rich and flavorful, but not overly heavy.
Ranked as one of the top Baltic Porters in the world, but priced like a boss, Black Boss is the rare and delicious import that doesn’t break the bank.
