A Note on This Beer
In craft-soaked Seattle, even the dive bars have their own signature brews! Like the beloved 9lb Hammer — this hard-rocking pub served as inspiration for one of the Seattle scene’s Dark Beer staples: Georgetown’s 9lb Porter.
Not surprisingly, the beer and the bar have a lot in common. Let’s take a look!
Both are pure Seattle! Ask any in-the-know Seattleite for a dive bar recommendation, and they’ll point you towards the free pool and fun folks at 9lb Hammer. Ask for a beer recommendation, and you’ll hear about Georgetown. They’re one of Eater’s Best Seattle Breweries AND won Favorite Brewery in The Seattle Times Readers Choice Poll, and 9lb Porter is their signature dark brew!
They both bring people together! The 9lb Hammer is the kind of bar where you might see a mohawked bartender serving pints to a bearded hipster and a buttoned-up tech geek at the same time. This Porter is the same way: its full-bodied flavor will satisfy your Stout-loving buddies, but the smooth, crushable finish keeps it shockingly approachable.
They’re both dark! The Georgetown crew crafted this Porter with Munich, Chocolate, and roasted malts for aromas of fresh coffee and dark chocolate, and a jet-black pour. It’s namesake bar is also dark, but that’s a matter of low lighting and few windows.
We can’t send Seattle’s favorite dive to your doorstep, but we can hook you up with a true taste of the local craft scene with 9lb Porter. For a truly authentic experience, just pull on a raincoat and cue up a little Nirvana.
