A Note on This Beer
The British are coming! The British are coming!
… They’re coming to the forefront of the craft beer scene with today’s coveted 2015 Vintage Maiden Barrel-Aged Barleywine from the World Beer Cup Award-winning Siren Craft Brew.
Craft fans are following Siren’s call near and far in hopes of getting their hands on a bottle of this rare vintage. And even if you’ve never heard of them, you’ll want to start paying more attention: because, the truth is, nobody makes an English Barleywine like the English. Especially when those English were once named Best Brewery in England and they use every barrel under the rainbow!
The 2015 Vintage is 50% Maiden, blended with all the oaky, boozy, barrel-aged goodness of the Scotch Whisky, Red Wine, Jack Daniels, Sherry, Tequila, and Banyuls Barrels that make up the rest. It’s a Maiden that’s totally unique to any other vintage in the series.
Hints of caramel dance across the palate, with a procession of toffee and dark fruit following in time. There’s a slight touch of ripe fruit and tannins from the Red Wine barrels, accompanied by a nutty sweetness. The 11.9% ABV is all but masked by notes of vanilla that softly finish the show.
Because these brews fly so fast, it’s next to impossible to find a bottle stateside. But don’t spend tons of cash hoppin’ across the pond for a taste of Maiden 2015 -- let the British come to you!
